Our Mission

At Russell G. O’Neal, M.D., LLC,  we are dedicated to providing exceptional medical care to the citizens of Macon and Middle Georgia.

How We Practice

a nurse treating a patient

Your body is precious, comprised of dozens of interconnected organs and organ systems. When you are receiving medical treatment, it’s essential that your healthcare providers consider you as a whole patient and treat every illness or chronic condition in a way that makes sense for you.

At Russell G. O’Neal, M.D. – Internal Medicine, we practice whole-patient medicine. Every time you visit our office, even if you have a specific complaint that has brought you in, we’ll look at you as a whole patient and only offer treatment options that will work effectively without negative interactions.

When a patient requires specialist care beyond our scope of services, we’ll make the referral, but our concern for our patient will continue well past that. As you receive treatments from one or more specialists, we’ll monitor your ongoing care and help you navigate the different treatment options to ensure that you have one physician looking out for you as a whole.

What’s the Difference Between Internal Medicine and Family Medicine?

While internists and family physicians are both “primary care providers,” the realities of the two types of practice are very different.

  • a doctor treating a young child

    Family Physician

A family physician or general practitioner has trained in multiple specialties and has a bit of experience in handling lots of different conditions. Family physicians see patients of all ages, from birth to death, and their services might include delivering babies, treating orthopedic injuries, seeing all types of acute illnesses, and any of thousands of other general medical issues.

  • Dr. Russell ONeal treating a patient

    Internal Medicine Physician (Internist)

As the American Board of Internal Medicine says, internists are “doctors for adults.” Instead of a general residency covering multiple specialty areas, an internist’s residence focuses exclusively on providing medical care for adults. With a practice solely dedicated to providing primary care and chronic condition management, the team at an internal medicine practice can focus their energies on those areas of medicine.
